28-29 September 2024, Article 33 Indonesia which was supported by Environmental Fund Management Agency<\/strong> (BPDLH) has conducted training as part of Institutional Capacity Building Program for Customary Law Communities (MHA)<\/strong> in Enrekang, South Sulawesi. Attended by dozens of participants from MHA Marena, Orong, and Tangsa.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first day's capacity increase focused on strengthening of traditional institutions <\/strong>on good institutional governance, MHA rights over customary forests, and how to ensure sustainable forest management with a strong leadership model. The second day discussed the Business Model Canvas (BMC), which aims to increase business development capacity for KUPS<\/strong> in the MHA region. Participants are encouraged to identify new business opportunities, formulate strong business strategies, and push KUPS to move up a class.

This training followed by various important elements in indigenous communities,<\/strong> including the Traditional Leader, KUPS administrators, traditional women, traditional youth, and local facilitators (called local champions). These local champions also act as extensions in the field, helping to facilitate and ensure that the programs being run are sustainable and in accordance with local needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this training, Article 33 Indonesia hopes that MHA in South Sulawesi, especially in the MHA areas of Marena, Orong, and Tangsa, can... increasingly strong in managing customary forests, while developing sustainable businesses.<\/strong> It is hoped that KUPS will be able to move up a class and become an example for other indigenous communities in advancing the local economy without sacrificing environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With close collaboration between indigenous communities, intermediary institutions and local governments, we can ensure that customary forest management<\/strong> done wisely, for the sake of the sustainability of nature and welfare of indigenous peoples <\/strong>better in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
