A Policy Discussion was held by Article 33 Indonesia together with the Coordinating Ministry for PMK on January 31 at the Coordinating Ministry for PMK Office regarding studies on strengthening the role of sub-districts in border areas. This Policy Discussion was led by Mr. Wijanarko Setiawan as Assistant Deputy for Strategic and Special Area Empowerment of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture and attended by several Ministries/Institutions (K/L) such as the Coordinating Ministry for PMK, Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration, Bappenas, Ministry of Home Affairs, Cabinet Secretariat, and BNPP .
Policy discussions were carried out to accommodate input and suggestions from each government stakeholder regarding the General Guidelines that would be created by the study team with the aim of increasing the role of sub-district and sub-district heads. Some important income and input that can be underlined are: (1) BNPP states that if the role of the sub-district head is not large, it will have an impact on massive budget corruption at the village level. On the other hand, the budget cannot be reduced properly if there is no coordination between the sub-district head and the regency. ; (2) Until now there is still overlap between the policies of Law 23 and Law 43 which discuss who is responsible for developing border areas, and it is hoped that these General Guidelines can help divide roles on this issue.
