JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Community involvement in social forest management can not only improve community welfare, but also increase forest conservation efforts. Regulatory support from local governments is also needed so that social forestry goals can be more optimal.

Article 33 Indonesia researcher, Syofia Agustini, said that social forestry programs that have been running in a number of areas have succeeded in reducing the potential for forest destruction. The welfare of the local community is also increasing as a result of this program.

“Providing legal access to communities to manage forests has increased sources of income and alternative sources of livelihood for communities. "This is also a solution to balance economic needs with ecological needs so that forests are maintained and well maintained," he said in a discussion related to the presentation of the book by researchers from Article 33 Indonesia entitled Preserving Forests, Prospering Communities, in Jakarta, Thursday (9/9/2021).
