Road to FELT 2024: Building Dialogue Towards Quality and Equitable Education in Indonesia

On July 8, 2024, Road to FELT 2024 as a pre-conference forum it was held by the Education Standards and Policy Center (PSKP) of the Ministry of Education and Culture and Article 33 Indonesia at the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton, Jakarta. This event was attended by 32 participants, together with Article 33 Indonesia and PSKP Kemendikbudristek RI representing institutions that are fully committed to advancing education in Indonesia such as the National Research and Innovation Agency, Indonesia Mengajar, INOVASI DFAT, INSPIRASI Foundation, All Students All Teachers Network, KOPEL Indonesia, Kemendikbudristek RI, Ma Education Institute 'arif Nahdlatul Ulama, Center for Education and Policy Studies, Save The Children, SMERU Research Institute, The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, The Asia Foundation, UNICEF, and the University of Indonesia.

Paving the way to FELT 2024: The long road to educational equality

Road to FELT 2024 raises important themes: "Overcoming the Problem of Educational Disparities in Indonesia". In the midst of various programs and policies launched, the issue of educational inequality is still a stumbling block in realizing quality and equitable education for all the nation's children.

The event began with an opening by Irsyad Zamjani, Head of PSKP Kemendikbudristek RI, and continued with an introductory discussion presentation by Santoso, Executive Director of Article 33 Indonesia. Next, the participants were divided into five discussion groups to discuss crucial topics such as:

  • The gap in teacher quality and quantity
  • The GEDSI issue gap in education, including supporting infrastructure
  • Gaps in the quality of student-centered learning
  • The digitalization gap to improve the quality of education
  • Educational gaps and resilience when facing shocks (disasters, disease outbreaks, social)

The discussion took place with great enthusiasm and enthusiasm. Participants from various backgrounds and expertise expressed their ideas, experiences and recommendations in overcoming education gaps in Indonesia.

Knitting the common thread: building momentum towards FELT 2024

At the end of the discussion session, the participants were invited to go around (Walking Gallery) go to each other group's table, exchange ideas, and provide input. This allows them to gain a broader perspective and enriches the discussion.

The event closed by summarizing all the results of the discussion together with Irsyad Zamjani, Head of the Center for Educational Standards and Policy, Santoso, Executive Director of Article 33 Indonesia, and Chitra Retna, Deputy Director of Article 33 Indonesia. The three of them conveyed the importance of discussion and active participation from various institutions and emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in overcoming education gaps in Indonesia.

Discussion results Road to FELT 2024 will be material for the presentation presented at the FELT 2024 event on 22-23 July 2024. Hopefully, deep discussion Road to FELT 2024 This can capture various critical perspectives in understanding the dynamics and determinants of educational disparities in Indonesia as well as relevant policies to overcome them. This event also emphasizes the commitment of all parties in realizing more equitable and quality education in Indonesia.
