Bandung City faces increasingly complex food system challenges due to high consumption and a population of over 2.5 million. In an urban context, food issues are no longer simply about availability, but also about stability, affordability, and long-term sustainability, which require systemic management.
This policy paper identifies key challenges in Bandung's food system, ranging from high dependence on external supplies, weakening local production, distribution inefficiencies that lead to food loss and waste, to the complexity of urban consumption patterns. At the same time, young people—as current and future stakeholders—have yet to fully gain meaningful space in food system decision-making.
Based on field findings and multi-stakeholder dialogue, this policy paper offers a direction for transformation towards a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable food system in Bandung City.
