JAKARTA, KOMPAS – The relevance of vocational education to the needs of industry in Indonesia needs to be strengthened so that vocational school graduates can be optimally absorbed. For this reason, comprehensive improvements are needed. Starting from adjusting the curriculum, providing adequate facilities and infrastructure, as well as improving the quality of teaching staff.
Irrelevant competencies of vocational high school (SMK) graduates result in minimal uptake in the world of work. From the national labor force survey (Sakernas), the unemployment rate for vocational schools is higher than for high schools. In August 2018, the unemployment rate for vocational schools was 11.24 percent and for high schools, 7.95 percent.
