This annual report discusses research findings on economic diversification in Indonesia, with a focus on resource-rich provinces such as South Sumatra, Riau, and West Nusa Tenggara. The study identifies the importance of economic diversification to address the challenges faced by these regions, such as the “resource curse” and the “Dutch Disease.” Diversification is considered a key strategy to reduce dependence on the extractive sector, stabilize the economy, and create new jobs in non-resource sectors.

As part of a study conducted by Article 33 Indonesia, this research is conducted in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The aim is to develop policies and programs that can strengthen economic diversification at the regional level, as well as provide relevant policy recommendations for local governments. The three provinces that are the focus of this research are considered to have great potential to implement economic diversification models that can be adjusted to their local characteristics.

The research also produces four main studies: an analysis of economic diversification in Indonesia, its impact on long-term development and welfare, policy strategies within the framework of regional autonomy and fiscal decentralization, and an investment model for selecting key sectors that can support economic diversification. This report provides useful guidance for policymakers in designing concrete steps to promote a more inclusive and sustainable economic transformation in resource-rich regions.
