Radar Bogor in collaboration with Article 33 Indonesia, Koppel Indonesia, and Yappika ActionAid held year-end dialogue activities with the theme "The Impact of Corruption on Public Services: Education Sector". The event, which was held on Tuesday, 27 December 2016, was attended by various figures including the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya Sugiarto, the Regent of Bogor Nurhayanti, the Chancellor of Pakuan University Bibin Rubini and the keynote speaker was former KPK leader, Abaraham Samad. As an introduction to the discussion, Arie from Koppel and Santoso, Executive Director of Article 33 Indonesia gave presentations. On this occasion, Santoso explained the results of the review of public education spending in Bogor City and Arie gave an overview of the education review in Bogor Regency.
Located at Graha Pena Radar Bogor, Abraham Samad explained that there is corruption caused by need and corruption caused by greed. The first type is often referred to as extortion which is relatively small in amount, the second is often referred to as white collar crime, which is a relatively large number. Meanwhile, the Bogor regent explained the anti-corruption policy in Bogor district, one of which was opening up input from various elements including NGOs. Bima Arya described policies that encourage transparency in the education sector, such as implementing online PPDB. Meanwhile, Binin Rubini talked about the importance of character education and improving the quality of teachers.
The discussion participants who overflowed into the hall of the Bogor Radar building looked very enthusiastic, as seen from the number of questioners in the discussion session. This discussion is expected to contribute to the discourse on eradicating corruption, especially in the education sector.
